The Shinobi Clash, an Eight-Player Free-for-All

Written with today's names: some places and characters in this entry have been renamed since it shipped.

The Shinobi Clash is a new live event: an eight-minute free-for-all for up to eight shinobi in an instanced copy of the forest village. One winner, decided on play alone.

Everyone on the same footing

  • Inside the Clash every fighter gets an identical level-60 template: the same health, chakra, attack, dodge and cooldown speed. Your level and gear decide nothing once the Gate closes, so a Chuunin and a veteran arrive as equals. Buffs still count on top.
  • Your character is never touched. No experience is lost, no item is consumed, and any buff you carried is paused at the Gate and handed back when you step out.

How a match works

  • Everyone starts carrying one flag. The fallen drop theirs where they land. Hold the most when the horn sounds to win.
  • Battle Buffs appear during the match: Fury (+30% damage), Aegis (30% less damage taken), Focus (40% shorter cooldowns) and Gale (+50% movement speed for 45 seconds, which the leader cannot take). Stand on one to claim it; a second replaces the first.
  • The Void Strike Trap answers a runaway leader. Anyone not leading can arm it, and it strikes the leader after two seconds of warning. A leader who holds the ring alone can break it first.
  • Kills credit bounties and ranked contracts as they do in the open world, and summons fight everyone inside the Gate.

Joining

  • A Clash Gate opens every 15 to 30 minutes in the forest village or the fields just south of it. It is open to Lv29 and above, seats eight, and stays open for four minutes.
  • The Gate shows on your minimap and region map as a crimson marker with its name and how many shinobi are waiting, pinned to the rim when it is out of view.
  • Rewards are Clash Marks (1 for taking part, 4 for a win), plus Ryo and experience set so eight minutes in the Clash is never worse than eight minutes farming.

The Clash Quartermaster

He keeps a counter in every Weapon Store. Five exclusive Rare pieces, all upgradeable and transmoggable, and every one arrives with all attributes at the top tier:

  • An attire for 40 Marks: +6 defense, +160 max chakra, +5% jutsu power, and every jutsu that damages an enemy returns 25 chakra. A strong first purchase.
  • Frostfang Sovereign Crown (90 Marks) and Mantle (110 Marks). Worn together, your damaging jutsu leave the wounded slowed.
  • Adamantine Staff (145 Marks): +20 attack, +600 max HP, +10% jutsu power, +30 accuracy, and your clone jutsu forms two extra clones.
  • Bloodsword (160 Marks): +40 attack. Every melee hit strips 15% of the victim's defense for six seconds and opens a bleed.

Achievements and missions

  • 17 Clash achievements worth 1,580 Achievement Points and 55 Chakra Crystals, plus two titles: Flagbearer for thirty victories and Unbroken for five victories without dying once.
  • New repeatables: a Clash daily and weekly (five matches, for 4 Clash Marks), and a Rift daily and weekly (close five, for 20,000 Ryo, fine crafting materials and two guaranteed legendary materials).

Also in this update

  • Stuns are about 40% shorter across the game. The longest stun falls from 4.5 seconds to 2.7.
  • Click the HUD clock to switch between your local time and server time (UTC); the Events Calendar follows. Every daily reset happens at 00:00 UTC.
  • Tab targeting returns to the nearest enemy after a brief pause, and the minimap shows about 30% more ground.
  • Allies can no longer damage your summoned puppet, and summons engage properly in duels and Arena bouts.
  • The Everything Under the Sun medal now counts every material already in your pouch.
